RULE MODIFICATION 01-09

Postby Bill Lackey on Wed Mar 04, 2009 3:44 pm

After further consideration, the 2009 weight rule pertaining to all Ford powered engines will be an additional 50 pounds instead of additional 100 as originally stated. The only rule affected will be the weight provision, We will seriously monitor this, AND we will make changes if and when needed. SUPERPRO reserves the right to pull any engine after any event for examination and inspection.

Bill,

I think last years results should have been sufficient. Please correct me if I am wrong about this.

We ran 8 races , 5 of these were won by a Ford, that left 3 wins by a chevy. 1 of which would have been won by a ford also, if he would not have blown up! The other 2 there were no fords present.

If the fords are equal to the chevys why do they cost about $3000.00 more? Can us chevys have that extra 20-40 horsepower for an additional 50 #'s ?

Please .........find someone with a portable chassis dyno to come to the track then we will all know.

Here is a suggestion to think about. Maybe SUPERPRO could put a lower RPM Rev Limiter in the Ford Motor's ignition box's.
I honestly don't know how much that would change things bec/ I have noticed that ALL Ford Crate motors seem to come out of the corners like rocket ships compared to most Chevy Crate motors. They seem to have their advantage in the bottom end in acceleration. Just throwing the idea out there, though.
If it was up to us Chevy drivers, I'm sure we would agree to keep the Ford's at 2800 lbs. :)

In this case, the engine that are in question could be "VALIDATED" by Phil Harper, the same way ASA does. The engine in question is dynoed and the numbers (HP & Torque) are check, if at this point the engine in question is deemed "Not Legal" then the engine would be opened up to verify what has been do to it.

One certified engine builder has been "BAND" from different racing series because of not following the engine rebuild guidelines set by the manufactures.

Just my 2 cents!

I know i have not raced with this series abunch but this is just my 2 cents. Yes Al you are correct about the Fords winning 5 out of the 8 races but I do not believe it is the motor. I ran the ASA north series last year with a Chevy motor and never once felt I was beat by motor. If you have chevy motor with the updates on it 1.6 rockers ect. Then you should be equal to a Ford. I think if you look at who one those races that would be your answer. I believe Jack landis won 4 and Jack Smith the other one. These two competiors are GREAT race car drivers and have a threat of winning everytime they are on the track. So I do not think it is neccassary to punish them for being fast. With that said that is my 2 cents and I will be running a chevy again this year.
